Derive
BY Mattia Sangiorgi
What would it look like if Samuel Beckett drifted through Italy with a camera? Derive is a unique photography book by Mattia Sangiorgi, comprised of 64 quietly perfect black-and-white photographs. It is a visual typology of rural industrializing Italy, a collection of anthropized landscapes and oblique portraits, a work with which viewers can interact by finding traces of their own past. Spurl Editions is currently selling six copies of derive, which was published in 2015 by Osservatorio Fotografico.
Mattia Sangiorgi was born in 1975. Lives in Ravenna, Italy. Studied Photography at the Academy of Fine Art of Ravenna and at IUAV University in Venice, where he met Guido Guidi and started to collaborate with him. Now he is interested in ordinary anthropized landscapes.
